Pump noise (air)

Noise in the pump - There is air trapped inside the pump

Grundfos · ALPHA3 Pump

What does Pump noise (air) mean?

The pump itself is making noise, such as rattling or gurgling, due to trapped air pockets inside its casing or impeller.

Common Causes

  • Air introduced during system filling or insufficient priming of the pump.
  • The system not being properly vented during initial startup or after maintenance.
  • Low inlet pressure leading to air ingress.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Let the pump run for some time; it is designed to self-vent over time through the system.

  2. 2

For new installations or after draining, manually vent the pump using the Grundfos GO Remote app via the 'Assist' menu, if available.

  3. 3

Ensure the system's inlet pressure is sufficient as very low pressure can exacerbate air issues in the pump.

  4. 4

Check for any visible leaks in the pipework surrounding the pump that could be drawing in air.
