Reduced capacity / Frost

Reduced air conditioner capacity or frost on the air outlet — Clogged air cleaning filter

Mitsubishi Electric · Air Conditioning

What does Reduced capacity / Frost mean?

If the air conditioner is not performing as expected, such as having reduced cooling or heating capacity, or if you notice frost on its air outlet, a clogged air cleaning filter is a likely cause. A dirty filter can restrict airflow and impact efficiency.

Common Causes

  • The air cleaning filter is dirty or clogged with dust and debris.
  • Infrequent cleaning or replacement of the air cleaning filter.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Remove the front panel and then carefully remove the catechin air filter (typically the left one) and the blue bellows type air cleaning filter.

  2. 2

Soak the air cleaning filter in water (use lukewarm water if it's heavily soiled) and rinse it delicately without removing it from its frame.

  3. 3

Ensure the filter is thoroughly dry before reattaching it.

  4. 4

Clean the air cleaning filter about once every 3 months for optimal performance and to prolong its life.

  5. 5

Do not remove or attach the AIR CLEANING FILTER while the unit is operating.
