Alarm Communication Error

Alarm Communication Error — Heat Pump not connected during initial setup

NIBE · SMO 40 Control Module

What does Alarm Communication Error mean?

This alarm typically appears on the SMO 40 display during the initial startup process if the control module cannot detect or communicate with a connected NIBE air/water Heat Pump. This happens when the SMO 40 expects a Heat Pump but none is present or active.

Common Causes

  • The NIBE air/water Heat Pump is not yet connected, powered on, or correctly configured
  • SMO 40 is commissioned in a setup that expects a Heat Pump that is not there

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Ensure the compatible NIBE air/water Heat Pump is properly connected to the SMO 40 and powered on.

  2. 2

If commissioning without a Heat Pump, navigate to menu 5.2.2 ('installed slaves') on the SMO 40 display.

  3. 3

Deactivate or unselect any air/water Heat Pump that is not physically installed or connected to prevent this alarm.

  4. 4

Reset the alarm through the display menu after adjusting the settings or confirming the Heat Pump connection.
