F20 — Outdoor compressor overheating protection

What does F20 mean?

The outdoor compressor has overheated, and its internal protection mechanism has activated. This occurs if overheating happens 4 times within 30 minutes, causing the OFF/ON control panel LED to blink.

Common Causes

  • Faulty compressor tank temperature sensor.
  • Clogged expansion valve or strainer.
  • Insufficient refrigerant in the system.
  • Defective outdoor PCB.
  • Faulty compressor.

    Turn off the power supply to the unit at the main breaker and allow the compressor to cool down for at least 30 minutes before restoring power.
