Gas leakage

Gas leakage — Refrigerant pipe connection issue

Panasonic · Aquarea Heat Pumps

What does Gas leakage mean?

Gas leakage from the refrigerant piping can occur due to improper connection methods, such as using incorrect tools, overtightening, or failing to remove burrs from cut pipes.

Common Causes

  • Using a pipe wrench instead of a proper spanner or ring wrench on flare nuts.
  • Overtightening flare nuts, which can damage them and cause leaks.
  • Not removing burrs from cut pipe edges, leading to poor seals.
  • Incorrect flaring of the copper pipes.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Always use a proper spanner or ring wrench to tighten refrigerant piping flare nuts. Do not use a pipe wrench.

  2. 2

    Tighten the flare nuts to the specified torque using a torque wrench (e.g., Gas: o15.88mm (5/8”) [65 N•m]; Liquid: o6.53mm (1/4”) [18 N•m] or o9.52mm (3/8”) [42 N•m]).

  3. 3

If cutting piping, ensure all burrs are completely removed using a reamer, turning the piping end down to prevent metal powder from entering.

  4. 4

After installation, perform a leak check of the refrigerant system.
