Spindle fault Case 3

Spindle fault: Spindle speed is not stable (varies during rotation)

Siemens · SINAMICS V70 Drives

What does Spindle fault Case 3 mean?

The spindle's rotation speed fluctuates and is not stable during operation, affecting machining quality.

Common Causes

  • Poor connection cables of the PPU, spindle drive, and encoder
  • Spindle drive fault
  • Incorrect machine data settings (MD30130, MD30240, MD30134, MD32250/MD32260)
  • Loose or damaged analog spindle interface X54 or its connections
  • Damaged PPU

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check whether the connection cables of the PPU, spindle drive, and encoder are in good condition.

  2. 2

Verify the settings of machine data MD30130, MD30240 (encoder type), MD30134 (spindle output polarity), and MD32250/MD32260 (rated motor speed consistency).

  3. 3

If using an analog spindle, check interface X54 on the back of the PPU for looseness or damage, and measure voltage output on pins 1 and 9 after starting the spindle.

  4. 4

Check whether the spindle drive has a fault.

  5. 5

If the fault still exists after these inspections, professional replacement and maintenance are necessary as the PPU is likely damaged.
