F.53 - Combustion regulation fault

Vaillant · ecoTEC plus Boilers

What does F.53 mean?

The boiler's combustion regulation system has detected an issue, which could relate to gas pressure or the type of gas being used.

Common Causes

  • Gas flow pressure is too low.
  • Incorrect gas coding resistance used (e.g., liquid gas resistance with natural gas).
  • Defective gas valve or mass flow sensor/Venturi (if fault recurs).
  • Mass flow sensor/Venturi is wet or blocked (do not wet the sensor or use lubricants on the O-ring).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Press the reset button on the boiler display up to three times to try and clear the fault.

  2. 2

Ensure the main gas supply valve to the boiler is fully open and that there is sufficient gas pressure to your property.

  3. 3

Verify that the boiler's gas coding resistance (a small component) matches the type of gas being used (natural gas or liquid gas). This typically requires a technician.

  4. 4

If the fault recurs, contact customer service. The gas valve or mass flow sensor/Venturi might be defective, wet, or blocked.
