What does Lid 'peeling' inside mean?

What appears to be 'paint peeling' on the inside of the grill lid is actually baked-on grease and smoke vapors that have carbonized and are now flaking off. This is not a defect.

    Clean the inside of the lid thoroughly to remove the carbonized grease.

    Use a stainless steel bristle grill brush to brush off the carbonized grease.
