EA and flashing fault indicator LED — Flame not detected

Worcester Bosch · Greenstar CDi Boilers

What does EA mean?

The EA code is displayed, and the fault indicator LED is flashing. This indicates that the boiler's burner flame was not detected when it should have been.

Common Causes

  • Gas cock is turned off or obstructed.
  • Thermal cut-out on the gas cock has tripped.
  • Problem with the flue, such as flue gases in the combustion air.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check if a burner flame is visible when the appliance attempts to start.

  2. 2

Ensure that the main gas cock (gas supply valve) leading to the boiler is fully open.

  3. 3

If the gas cock was closed, open it and then press the reset button for 3 seconds, then release it.

  4. 4

If the fault persists, or if you suspect the thermal cut-out on the gas cock has tripped, contact a qualified heating engineer for further diagnosis and repair.

  5. 5

An engineer can also check for problems with the flue, such as flue gases in the combustion air.
