What does Glass Smear / Rainbow mean?

A milky or iridescent film on glassware that cannot be wiped off by hand indicates either too much rinse aid being used or corrosion due to very soft water. This is often referred to as glass etching.

    Measure the hardness of your supply water. If it is very soft (<15 gpg), do not use salt.

    Choose programs that wash at higher temperatures (140-149°F) if you have soft water.

    Consider using commercially available glass protective detergents.
