Carrier · Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

What does 39-58 mean?

The system's Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is not receiving feedback from the fan motor, or there's a large speed error. The system is locked out for 30 minutes.

Common Causes

  • Internal electrical damage within the fan motor preventing feedback.
  • Severe speed error between commanded and actual fan speed.
  • Failing fan motor.
  • Issue with the VFD control unit.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Turn off power to the unit at the circuit breaker and wait 30 seconds before turning it back on.

  2. 2

Check all wiring connections to the fan motor and the VFD for any signs of damage or looseness.

  3. 3

Listen for any unusual sounds coming from the fan motor that might suggest internal damage.

  4. 4

If the fault persists, it likely indicates a need to replace the fan motor, or potentially the VFD, by a qualified technician.
