Code 57-xx P1 Shorted or 58-xx P2 Shorted - Pressure transducer signal wire is shorted.

Carrier · Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps

What does 57-02 / 57-42 / 58-02 / 58-42 mean?

This fault indicates that the signal wire for pressure transducer P1 (codes 57-xx) or P2 (codes 58-xx) is 'shorted,' meaning it's returning less than 0.5V DC. The most common cause is the sensor wire shorting to the metal chassis of the unit.

Common Causes

  • Sensor wire for P1 or P2 transducer shorted to the metal chassis.
  • Power wire not supplying +5V DC to the transducer.
  • Signal wire not returning DC Voltage between 0.5-4.5 VDC.
  • Faulty pressure transducer part.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Visually inspect the wiring harnesses for pressure transducers P1 and P2, especially the green signal wire (GRN), for any damage or contact with metal.

  2. 2

Ensure the sensor wire is not shorted to the metal chassis or any other conductive surface.

  3. 3

Verify that the red power wire (RED) is supplying +5V DC and the green signal wire (GRN) is returning a DC voltage between 0.5-4.5 VDC.

  4. 4

If connections and voltages appear correct, the pressure transducer itself may be faulty and require replacement by a technician.
