CT Error

CT Error (via PC Command Center) - Zone temperature not maintained

Carrier · VVT-1T System

What does CT Error mean?

A Comfort Trend (CT) error is a transparent error detected by the slave thermostat, indicating difficulty in maintaining the desired temperature conditions in its zone. The thermostat does not display this error directly; it must be accessed and cleared using the PC Command Center software. It signifies that the zone temperature is not improving or is worsening over time.

Common Causes

  • Insufficient airflow into the zone due to damper settings or ductwork issues.
  • Incorrect configuration of the slave thermostat's Damper Maximum Open Position setting for pressure dependent zones.
  • Incorrect configuration of the slave thermostat's Airflow Set Point for pressure independent zones.
  • Loose connections, poorly insulated ductwork, or issues with the bypass controller.
  • Supply-air fan not producing adequate air volume or static pressure.
  • Supply air temperature being incorrect (too high during cooling, too low during heating).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check and adjust the Damper Maximum Open Position (rotary switch position 5) or balancing dampers for pressure-dependent zones. Set to 15 for full open.

  2. 2

Verify and adjust the Airflow Set Point for pressure-independent zones to a higher value, ensuring Damper Maximum Open Position is set to 15 and no balancing dampers reduce airflow.

  3. 3

Inspect the ductwork to the zone for loose connections or poor insulation that could reduce air volume or affect temperatures.

  4. 4

For VVT systems, check the bypass controller configuration to ensure it's not causing low system static pressure.

  5. 5

Verify the performance of the supply-air fan to ensure it produces adequate supply air and static pressure.

  6. 6

Check the temperature of the airflow into the zone; if it's outside design conditions, inspect the main equipment operation.
