Blue LED 3 flashes — EMS bus and network both not connected

Junkers · EMS Gateway

What does 3 flashes mean?

The blue LED on the Gateway blinks three times, then pauses, repeating the pattern. This indicates a complete lack of communication; the Gateway cannot detect the EMS bus from your boiler or Heat Pump, and it also cannot connect to your home network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

Common Causes

  • EMS bus wires are not connected, incorrectly wired, or there's a problem with the boiler's bus.
  • Gateway is not configured for the home network, or there are significant network issues.
  • General power instability or critical component failure preventing both connections.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

First, carefully check all physical connections for the EMS bus wires to the boiler and the Gateway.

  2. 2

Next, address the network connection by ensuring Wi-Fi credentials are correct or the Ethernet cable is securely plugged in.

  3. 3

Power cycle the Gateway by unplugging it for at least 30 seconds, then plugging it back in to restart the boot sequence.

  4. 4

Verify that only one connection type (jack or screw terminal) is used for the EMS bus to prevent short circuits.
